When summer comes calling, its siren song leads San Diegans to the water. With over 4,000 acres of land and water, Mission Bay is the perfect place to pass a summer’s day.

Originally dubbed “Puerto Falso”—or “False Bay”—by Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo because he and other explorers were duped into believing it was actually the larger San Diego Bay to the south, Mission Bay became a recreational water park in the mid-1900s. Today, it is a haven for not only outdoor enthusiasts but also for many species of birds and fish.

A day at the largest man-made recreational park in the country could take you anywhere from Crown Point Park at the north end of the bay to the world-famous SeaWorld San Diego at the southern edge. With so much to offer, landlubbers and sea captains alike are sure to have fun times at the shore. And for all your water recreation needs, Mission Bay Sportcenter is your one-stop shop for enjoying a day of fun in the sun on the water.

Boasting a 7,000-square-foot facility, Mission Bay Sportcenter has everything any water enthusiast could ever need and also offers year-round private and group lessons. Basic sailing, catamaran sailing and stand up paddle boarding classes are offered as an easy and entertaining way to learn the basics and beyond. From sailboats and surfboards to powerboats and paddle boards and everything in between, you’re sure  to find what you need for your water expeditions. Be sure to check out some of their more unusual offerings, like the Jetpack—which combines skydiving, jet skiing, parasailing and scuba diving into an unforgettable experience—or the Hot Tub Cruise, which features a multi-jet hot tub with plush deck seating.
