How does a maple bacon doughnut topped with pure Vermont maple glaze sound?

If it seems like just the trick for getting you out of bed early on a Saturday morning, you’re in luck. The famous Sidecar Doughnuts has arrived in San Diego!

Inspired by a shared vision of creating a gathering place for their community, Sidecar was established in 2012 by Sumter and Chi-Lin Pendergrast. With a background in visual arts, the dynamic duo brings an artistic flair to their culinary creations.

They stand by their commitment to serve the “World’s Freshest Doughnut” and offer inventive and seasonal flavors with a from-the-earth approach.

The menu boasts items like Southern Bourbon Pecan Pie, made with house-made pecan pie filling, maple whipped crème fraîche and brown butter pecans—all topped with a bourbon glaze. There’s also the salty caramel topped with a house-made sweet and salty caramel glaze and finished with a dash of sea salt flakes.

Fancy a birthday doughnut for someone’s special occasion? Go for the Birthday Cake—a vanilla bean cake topped with pink vanilla bean glaze and rainbow sprinkles.

The team makes their doughnuts daily from scratch using only real ingredients. They concoct hand-crushed compotes, make infused glazes and create flavored custards and creams in house. Doughnuts are fried in small batches every hour to ensure freshness, and the flavor selection changes monthly to keep eager doughnut eaters on their toes. Need a gluten-free fix? They’ve got you covered!

Wash your treat down with a collection of hot or cold coffee beverages like the Black Onyx—Sidecar’s take on a traditional mocha made with Black Onyx Cocoa, milk and espresso. If you’re more of a tea aficionado, try a cup of Kusmi. Now based in Paris, the fine tea purveyors were born out of a small Russian teashop in 1867 (and their flavors combine beautiful notes of sweet, spicy and floral).

If you’ve read this far and haven’t hightailed it to the Del Mar Town Center to get your doughnut eating on yet, perhaps knowing that this company is also committed to philanthropy will do the trick. The SideCares program selects partners to donate a percentage of their proceeds to every month, so you can rest assured that you’re eating your treats with a purpose.
