Leanne Wynder, who represents the third generation of her family’s children’s clothing store, remembers standing on a stool behind the counter as a little girl alongside her mother. Many of her customers remember it too.

“Lots of customers who are parents now remember wearing our clothes as children,” Leanne says. “Others, who bought outfits for their children here, are back again, shopping for their grandchildren and great grandchildren! They say they love the family feel of our shop as well as the quality of the clothing they find here. For many people, we’re a family tradition.”

The shop’s carefully curated inventory is a source of pride for Leanne. “I strive to find clothing that is high quality, eco-conscious, and unique,” she says. Her ongoing pursuit to find new merchandise leads her to countless showrooms and apparel events to find the perfect pieces and best lines—brands that aren’t available in other
San Diego stores. She has an eye for what is current and what her customers will appreciate most.

One of the biggest trends we have been seeing in children’s wear this season is soft organic clothing in neutral earth tones,” Leanne says. “Our companies are able to pop in color as accents, which is a great way to feminize or masculinize a neutral palette.”

This fall is an especially exciting time at Sweetpea Children’s Shop because they have moved into a larger space. Leanne reports that they have had no trouble adapting to the extra square footage, because they’re filling it up with exciting new merchandise from around the world. What’s more, they’ve added a new layette department for babies—Sweetpea’s next generation of customers.
