Defining the light, feminine style of CoCo Rose

When Eileen Burke and her daughter, Shannon, first vacationed in Bali in 2007, they were so impressed with the people and their lifestyle that their own lives took a new direction. At the time, Eileen owned a retail space (today’s Queen Eileen’s in Encinitas) featuring gift items along with a telegram and gift basket business, but Bali beckoned. Eileen found herself returning to Bali again and again to collect beautiful Balinese clothing, jewelry, and home décor for her store. Finally, she decided to give her passion a name and CoCo Rose was born.

CoCo Rose is a light, feminine, and tropical assortment of items that makes women feel serene and beautiful. From its logo, designed by a female art student, to the flowing caftans, kimonos, pantsuits, and accessories, the collection appeals to women of every age. Eileen and Shannon personally select everything on their travels in Bali, Thailand, India, and beyond.

“Wherever we go, we seek items that project a timeless, Bohemian feeling,” Eileen says. “For example, I look for dresses that look great on me and great on my daughter, too. Drapey styles that are great for all sizes and ages. We seek basic items that can be styled in all kinds of ways.” Their efforts are well-appreciated in the shop. In fact, it’s not unusual for a customer to spend an hour considering her options as she tries on the many necklaces, scarves, sweaters, hats, and earrings that have been curated to go with one basic piece.

This year is a big one for the CoCo Rose collection. In January, two new CoCo Rose shops opened at El Paseo Palm Desert and Old Town La Quinta to join the shops in Carlsbad Village, Del Mar Plaza, JW Marriott-Desert Springs, and Desert Springs Marketplace. Also, this summer, Eileen’s original shop, Queen Eileen’s in Encinitas, will transition into a CoCo Rose shop. Eileen assures us that she will continue to feature a nice section of fun gift items in the back of the Encinitas CoCo Rose location, where Queen Eileen’s devotees are welcome to stop in often.  It’s wonderful to know that with seven CoCo Rose shops in Southern California, we can ride that Balinese breeze wherever we go.
